2027 marks 200 years since the Great Fire of Turku. Sibelius Museum commemorates the event with the exhibition Amateurs, oboists and dancers, which takes us to Turku during the decades preceding the fire: The centre of culture in Finland, where The Musical Society of Turku created the modern concert, the high society danced waltz, and which, in the end burned down to ash.

The exhibition presents the music life in a modernising European city at turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. You can see, among other things, musical instruments typical to the period, sheet music from the Musical Society of works performed in Turku, as well as pictures of the Turku lost in the fire.

The exhibition is open 23.1.2027–1.10.2028.
