Aino K is a musical drama about the life of Aino Kallas (1878–1956). Alto Johanna Fiskaali performs in the role of Aino, and pianist Josefin Sundström plays the role of her sister Aune. Aino reflects on her life and contemplates the relationship between artistry and motherhood in her own experience. She remembers her deceased children, her spouse, and the connection she felt with Eino Leino. The musical drama is written by Professor Sven Kristersson from the Malmö Academy of Music and Johanna Fiskaali. The script is based on Aino Kallas’s diaries and research conducted about her. The musical arc is built around Tauno Pylkkänen’s song cycle The Swan of Death.
The performance lasts approximately 35 minutes and is in Swedish.

After the monologue, we will hear piano music performed by Josefin Sundström, featuring works by lesser-known female composers.

Additionally, as part of the evening’s program, author Suvi Ratinen will talk about her book Pakolainen (Otava 2025), which will be published this fall. It is a tragic novel about displacement, with Aino Kallas as the main character. Finally, we will have a joint discussion about the evening’s performances and themes.

The event languages are Swedish and Finnish.

Admission is free, and the event is open to everyone.

The event is organized by the Aino Kallas Society in collaboration with the Sibelius Museum. The production of the event is supported by the Swedish-Finnish Cultural Foundation.
