Renaissance, Baroque, Romanticism, Realism and Rautavaara

Gabrieli – Vivaldi – Bach – Saint-Saëns – Chopin – Bizet – Dvořák – Fauré – Prokofiev – Khachaturian – Rautavaara

Viuluakatemia Aura and Raija Lehmussaari’s Ballet School join forces in a unique cross-disciplinary production where music and dance intertwine across the ages.

The audience is invited on a captivating journey from the clear sonorities of the Renaissance through the splendour of the Baroque, the pulse of Romanticism, the precision of Realism, and all the way to the modern glow of Rautavaara. Each era is brought to life anew as skilled dancers and violinists create vivid stage images – as if looking through glass into both the past and the future. Through the Glass is more than a concert or a ballet performance, it is a holistic experience in which music becomes visible and dance begins to resonate.

The production Through the Glass features approximately 30 young artists in total.

Raija Lehmussaari, coaching of dancers
Arja Yurtseven, training of musicians

Violin Academy Aura brings together talented young violinists who firmly believe in the power of classical music in our rapidly changing world. They share a passionate commitment to mastering a demanding instrument and a desire to share their artistry with others. Violin Academy Aura is a dynamic and creatively active association, eager to spread the joy of violin playing in diverse ways. In the Turku region, the association has actively organised advanced masterclasses, artistically high-level concerts, as well as low-threshold performances accessible to wide audiences. The artistic director of Violin Academy Aura is the highly respected violin pedagogue and violinist Arja Yurtseven. The academy’s young musicians have already gained significant solo experience and received recognition in both national and international violin competitions. With the production Through the Glass, they now step into the world of ballet as well.

Raija Lehmussaari’s Ballet School has provided ballet education for young people for seven decades. The school has trained numerous professionals in ballet and contemporary dance who work both in Finland and internationally. Alumni of the school are currently engaged with companies such as the Polish National Ballet, the Royal Swedish Ballet, the Düsseldorf Ballet, The Australian Ballet and the Finnish National Ballet. Many former students also work as dance pedagogues in both public and private schools. The school’s long-standing success is likely rooted in an approach that treats each student as an individual and as a practitioner of performing arts. The school’s director, Raija Lehmussaari, continues to work actively as a ballet teacher and choreographer alongside the school’s other dance professionals.
